Promotion

Promotion of the MTB season:
  1. Print 11"X17" posters listing the MTB schedule and distribute to shops and recreational centres (based on last year's design by Kevin). Distribute these posters by the beginning of March.
  2. Follow the deadlines on the race information form
  3. Have detailed "race bibles" for each event that can be distributed to websites (MCA) and blogs at least 2 weeks prior to the event
  4. Agree that Cup results be distributed to media for publication. This will be the top three in each category, men and women. This is the responsibility of the race organizer.

  1. As far as major media, I don't think the results really mean anything as far as Promotion or Marketing. The media is more interested in stories about athletes or events, we need to somehow make them more away of those storeies/news items. That is where the MCA site could be used to feature these kind of stories, so the major media outlets could themselves be informed.

I don't think a small listing of results on the back page of the Sports section will bring any more racers into the sport.

  2. I agree, but it doesn't hurt and the effort to get those in to the paper does not require that much extra work.

We'll make sure that we promote our athletes on the new site.

Any other ideas for promotion would be appreciated.

  3. I agree, and the results should always be sent promptly. Every little bit counts. Promotion of Athletes should be on an ongoing basis. I suggest at least once every two-weeks. We could start with the Provincial Team, then move to notable athletes (e.g., Lindsay, Phil, etc), Kids of Mud during the season, and Masters when we can fit them in. People like hearing/reading stories about people.

  4. I agree that the MCA has don't a poor job of promoting ourselves, results or individual athletes. Two questions that I have:
    1) Where are we trying to promote to? What audience are we trying to target?
    2) Who is responsible for doing this? Is this up the the MCA staff, the MTB committee, the race organizer? Need to have a clearly defined pathway of how this is distributed to the media/community.
